In November 1999, thousands of activists, workers, students, environmentalists, farmers, and community organizers gathered in Seattle to protest the World Trade Organization’s new round of trade negotiations. “Bye Buy World: The Battle of Seattle” documents the demonstrations, and examines the growing opposition to corporate globalization and the influence of the WTO.

Through interviews with activists, labour leaders, environmentalists, farmers and international advocates, including Maude Barlow, David Suzuki, Ken Georgetti, Ralph Nader, Vandana, Shiva, José Bové, and Warren Allmand, the film explores concerns about workers’ rights, environmental protection, public services, food security and democratic accountability.

The documentary captures the energy and diversity of a movement that brought together people from across sectors and borders. The events became known as the “Battle of Seattle” and marked a significant moment in the growing global movement, challenging corporate-led trade and globalization.
