Evocative performance film to inspire discussion on the dark history of slavery in New France (Québec) through a little-known story of the hanging of runaway slave Marie-Josèph Angélique, accused of setting a fire that burned several buildings in Montréal in 1734. In 2017 the plaque marking this tragic event and possible miscarriage of justice was removed from Vieux Montréal as the city prepared for its 350th anniversary celebrations. It has not been reinstalled, relegating the history of slavery in Canada to an even further distance on the margins than it had been.
