In 1942 the Canadian Government ordered the uprooting of 22,000 men, women, and children in one of the nation's largest and cruelest dispossessions and dispersals ever. A generation later, Japanese Canadians fought back and won. Twenty-five years later, Children of Redress uncovers the struggle in detail. It combines rare archival footage with interviews of the negotiating team--Roy Miki, Art Miki, Cassandra Kobayashi, Audrey Kobayashi, Maryka Omatsu and Joy Kogawa, author of Obasan--to inform a new generation of the importance of the 1998 victory for social justice.
