This poetic documentary combines historical footage, live action and animation to tell parallel stories from the Yukon about two Indigenous men who were away a long time before returning home.
Pete Sidney, an Indigenous soldier who fought in the Second World War, was gone for six years. When he finally returned, his mother Angela sang an ancient song that tells the story of Tlingit hunter Kaax'achgook of the Kiks.adi clan in Southeast Alaska. Kaax'achgook was lost at sea for many months as he relied on the sun's position to navigate home. Angela Sidney sang this ancient song to celebrate the return of her son from the war.
