Narrated by Steph Song, One Of Ours follows the six-year journey to uncover the life and legacy of Private Fred Lee, a soldier considered lost and forgotten. Private Lee was legally a British Subject of a British Dominion, yet still considered an "alien" by Canada, who put his life on the line to fight for his King and country. He was born to Chinese parents in a small interior community of Kamloops, British Columbia, during a tumultuous time of harsh anti-Chinese racism that shaped every aspect of daily life.
With only his name and a military service number as the starting point, the film pieces together Private Fred Lee's story, revealing a buried chapter of Canadian history, one that spans the gold rush, the First World War, and a family forever altered by a nation in the making.
