"Pressure Point" is a satirical documentary series exploring British Columbia’s environmental issues through fictional interviews with politicians and senior bureaucrats.
This episode was inspired by a press conference at Fisherman's Wharf in False Creek after a diesel spill on June 14, 2015. The response to the spill was impressive–and very different from response to the 2,700-bunker oil spill that happened in Burrard Inlet three months earlier. It wasn't long before rumours began to circulate among the people who lived and worked in and around the wharf that the diesel spill was not a spill but a demonstration event to show that the government was taking a new and improved proactive response to oil spills. I wondered what questions would be asked if a journalist knew prior to an interview that an oil spill was fake, and what the official might say in response.
