“The Intrepid Native Reporter: Duncan McCue” Series 2 Episode 14
Combining adroit storytelling with a legal background, this reporter tells it like no other. Duncan McCue began his career with journal writing and poetry, before moving to the student newspaper at University of King's College in Halifax and Road Movies, followed by YTV News. Completing a law degree at UBC took him on a journey that required a different kind of thought process; but when the opportunity presented itself, he returned to journalism for a career. In an intimate and frank discussion, Duncan McCue sheds light on the trials and tribulations of being a CBC National reporter.
“Storytellers in motion” follows him on an average day that includes the rapid changes in assignments and sudden challenges that spring up as he works to complete a tight deadline. Just as when he started with CBC in Vancouver 10 years ago, McCue remains the only native reporter. He is very aware how powerful and the effect decision makers who come from a single demographic can have on the shaping of television news.
Series two of “Storytellers in Motion'' celebrates the achievements of Canada's Indigenous artists who work across media that include photography, print journalism, screenwriting for film and television and broadcast news. All have inspiring careers and contribute their thoughts on their place in mainstream media as they seek to define the Indigenous voice.
