In this deeply personal 7-minute experimental short, The Day My Cat Saved My Life, recounts filmmaker Kagan Goh's true experience of a severe psychotic break. The film follows an unnamed narrator bombarded by the constant noise and pressure of the city, an overwhelming sonic landscape that heightens his disorientation and despair. As he reaches the edge of suicide, a sudden moment of grace arrives in the form of his cat, whose simple presence pulls him back from the brink.
Guided by a poetic spoken-word narration and dreamlike visuals, Goh transforms a moment of crisis into an act of storytelling courage. His willingness to bravely share such a vulnerable experience opens space for dialogue about mental health and the stigma surrounding psychosis, while honouring the small, unexpected acts of care that can change the course of a life.
