aftermeth: a family story
(2012, 51 minutes)
aftermeth: a family story follows the roller coaster ride of one family as it battles with drug addiction and codependency. The family is one of three featured in the 2005 documentary Crystal Fear, Crystal Clear. At that time, Michelle, a registered nurse, and her three children Aaron, Kyler and Amber were all in transitional periods in their lives as they struggled to cope with the crystal meth addiction of Aaron, the eldest son. This film catches up with the family five years later to find a surprising twist. The roles of mother and son are now reversed. The shock of watching himself in Crystal Fear, Crystal Clear gave Aaron the incentive to stop his crystal meth use. He now has a job and is actively pursuing a second career as a musician. His mother, Michelle, is at the lowest point in her life when we first meet her. She lost her nursing license due to her own drug use. Her daughter Amber had to move in with another relative and is a frequent marijuana user. When Michelle's other son, Kyler, succumbs to the use of crystal meth, it triggers Michelle into action to once again gain control of her life and be there for children.
