Different Kind of Sick

Different Kind of Sick

(2023, 13 minutes)

"Different Kind of Sick" follows six-year-old Lily as she navigates a series of overwhelming changes, a new home, a new school, and her birthday. When she unexpectedly witnesses her parents argue in the middle of the night, Lily senses that something is wrong. Determined to understand what is being hidden from her, she begins to seek the truth. What she uncovers is an uncomfortable reality that places an emotional weight far heavier than she anticipated. Told entirely from Lily’s perspective, the film offers an intimate exploration of how an invisible illness can quietly affect not only the individual, but those who love them.

Written, directed and produced by Nightingale, "Different Kind of Sick" was created to open conversations about mental health with audiences who may not yet have the language to name it. Grounded in lived experience, the film emphasizes that mental health is relational, extending its impact beyond one person.
