How I Got My Queer Back

How I Got My Queer Back

(2025, 15 minutes)

This powerful short documentary explores the resilience, identity, and joy of the queer community through the legacy of Vancouver’s iconic Little Sister’s Bookstore. More than just a bookstore, Little Sister’s was a lifeline—offering access to gender-affirming information and serving as a vital hub for connection during a time of intense censorship, surveillance, and violence.

Through intimate personal stories, the film moves beyond the bookstore to highlight the lived experiences of queer individuals navigating trauma, identity, and belonging. From battles at the border over banned books to declarations of “queer joy” and visions of a gender revolution, this film is a celebration of a community that never stops moving forward.

Featuring powerful testimonies and an unforgettable cross-country motorcycle journey led by two trans women—one a First Nations Mohawk—the film is a call to action, reflection and collective healing.
