Moving Images Distribution is located on the traditional, ancestral, unceded and occupied territory of the Coast Salish peoples - xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations - commonly known as Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Our roots lie within the independent film and video community. During the 1970s, a group of talented filmmakers began developing ways to increase the profile of their work. Their vision resulted in the formation of Canadian Filmmakers Distribution West which changed its name to Moving Images Distribution in 1994. Since our beginnings in 1979, we've worked to connect audiences with innovative works by some of Canada's internationally acclaimed media artists working in experimental, documentary, animation, short fiction and personal narrative.
Geoff Green, Tony Green and Eric Olson are brothers who share a passion for art. Geoff is a student of design and would one day like to teach. Tony carves both wood and metal and paints, but his specialty is pencil drawing. Eric, the youngest, was motivated by his brothers and only recently began to carve. The three lived away from Haida Gwaii throughout their childhood but their mother Roberta Olsen, determined to preserve their cultural roots, raised them in Haida ways. They discuss their connection to their own work and the inspiration they receive from their culture, their traditional home and one another.
Shot on British Columbia's rugged north coast, this second series of Ravens and Eagles: Haida Art continues its exploration into the roots of traditional Haida art, all from the inside perspective of a member of the Haida community, writer, producer and director Marianne Jones.
