“Out of the Shadow: Christine Welsh” Series 1 Episode 2

Women within Aboriginal communities are important keepers of traditions. Christine Welsh is a Métis storyteller who was raised in Saskatchewan and now lives on the west coast. In addition to her work as a professor in Women's Studies at the University of Victoria, she is also an award-winning filmmaker noted for tackling tough issues and handling them with grace and clarity. Welsh recognizes outstanding Indigenous women who champion community causes, and examines their daily struggles and triumphs. She has written and directed films that explore her own Métis heritage as well as the challenges and contributions of warrior women who have worked to advance the cause of First Nations people in Canada.

Over three seasons, “Storytellers in Motion”, introduces a number of Canada's Indigenous storytellers. Sharing excerpts from their films, these storytellers comment on their work and explore their creative voices.
