“Thirza Cuthand” Series 3 Episode 32

Thirza Cuthand, a Cree filmmaker and artist from Saskatchewan, has made over 10 videos since they were sixteen years old, dealing with issues as far-ranging as sexual stereotypes, ageism, queer identity, race, and mass-mediated representations of the family from what they term a wry young half-breed dyke perspective. Thirza completed their BFA in film and video at Emily Carr University of Art & Design. They made an experimental film about their mixed heritage with photography in Saskatchewan and Scotland. Thirza credits her mother for their political acumen. They used to watch lots of TV and Thirza would be schooled to detect prejudice and homophobia on television. Both their parents are prolific artists, Thirza is a unique voice in a sea of many.

“Storytellers in Motion”, Series 3 continues its celebration of Canada's Indigenous artists who work across media, from writers, producers and directors to video artists.
