"Pressure Point" is a satirical documentary series exploring British Columbia’s environmental issues through fictional interviews with politicians and senior bureaucrats.
In January 2021, the city of Victoria, British Columbia, finally opened a new sewage treatment plant after dumping raw sewage into the ocean for over a century. Shortly afterwards, some raw sewage was spotted on a beach. It quickly brought back the ongoing joke about the bits of sewage known as floaties. Not all of the Greater Victoria region was connected to the new sewage system when it opened, either because of the cost or because some neighbourhoods were still on septic fields, so the origin of these new floaties became the topic of much discussion. Where did they come from? Were they connected to a free trade dispute? Illegal immigration? Or heaven forbid, terrorism?
