Moving Images Distribution is located on the traditional, ancestral, unceded and occupied territory of the Coast Salish peoples - xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations - commonly known as Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Our roots lie within the independent film and video community. During the 1970s, a group of talented filmmakers began developing ways to increase the profile of their work. Their vision resulted in the formation of Canadian Filmmakers Distribution West which changed its name to Moving Images Distribution in 1994. Since our beginnings in 1979, we've worked to connect audiences with innovative works by some of Canada's internationally acclaimed media artists working in experimental, documentary, animation, short fiction and personal narrative.

Storytellers in Motion S3E36 Laura Miliken
“Laura Milliken” Series 3 Episode 36
In this portrait of Laura Milliken, “Storytellers in motion” viewers meet one of the busiest and multi-faceted independent producers working in Canada today. As co-creator of “Moccasin Flats”, she literally fell into the dramatic and creative scene when the series aired on the APTN in 2003. The series was based on social issues that revolved around the lives of Aboriginal teenagers who reside in an 11-block radius in Regina, Saskatchewan. Her experience with the series expanded her horizons, while the mixed reaction from the Aboriginal community caught her off-guard. From her extensive experience in media, Laura provides solid information that will inform any young artists hoping to work in her field.
“Storytellers in Motion”, Series 3 continues its celebration of Canada's Indigenous artists who work across media, from writers, producers and directors to video artists.
