“Gail Maurice” Series 3 Episode 30
Vivacious and charismatic, Gail Maurice is a ball of energy wrapped around a focused and determined woman. This Métis actress directed her first feature length documentary in 2007, “Scream Your Dreams”, about Aboriginal youth in Canada. Her short “Smudge” aired on CBC Newsworld in 2005 and premiered in the United States in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. The film touches on the practices of burning sweetgrass, or sage, for spiritual purposes. Maurice has acted in Canadian film and television, including the lead role in “Johnny Greyeyes”, a feature film she co-wrote and that was directed by Jorge Manzano. She also had a recurring role as Skye Nighthawk in the popular Canadian Showtime television series “Street Time”. Gail talks about her passions and her plans for stories and life.
“Storytellers in Motion”, Series 3 continues its celebration of Canada's Indigenous artists who work across media, from writers, producers and directors to video artists.
