As a child, Alexandra Morton spent most of her free time playing in ponds and observing the wild creatures around her parents' home. She feared growing up and having to get a real job like the adults around her instead of continuing to develop her passion for the natural world. Everything changed when she saw Jane Goodall on the cover of a National Geographic magazine and realized she could turn her passion into a career. She began by studying dolphins and killer whales first in oceanariums and then in the wild off the coast of British Columbia. When the killer whales began to disappear from the Broughton Archipelago, east of Port McNeill in BC, she left her cetacean studies to defend wild salmon. The decision pitted her against a powerful industry and her own government. This is her story.
