The Klondike Viking

The Klondike Viking

(2016, 20 minutes)

The story of Bill Hakonson is one of ambition and adventure. As a small child, Bill's family emigrated from Norway to the Canadian Prairies. Young Bill was so mistreated that he ran away from home at age 13. He risked his life riding on the top of a freight train, through a snowstorm, to Vancouver. His adventurous spirit took him north to the Yukon. He settled in Dawson City in 1943. The gold mining town provided him the opportunity to start many successful businesses, and to finally find the secure family life he didn't have as a child.
